The Chambersburg Police Department provides a thorough and comprehensive investigation of all criminal matters mandated by department policy through the Criminal Investigation Unit. The unit currently consists of 4 criminal investigators and 1 investigator assigned to the Franklin County Drug Task Force.
The Criminal Investigation Unit is tasked with the general investigation of a wide range of cases that include homicide, death investigation, sexual assault, serious property crimes and major drug cases. Investigators are responsible for preparing cases for prosecution, keeping crime victims apprised of all progress and working with the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office to ensure successful prosecutions.
Investigators have received training in and utilize the latest methods and techniques of crime scene and criminal investigations. Their training is updated often. The unit provides the department with specialized services in the areas of: Interview and Interrogation, Finger Print Identification, Evidence Collection and Processing, Photography, Crime Scene Investigation, Wiretap Investigations, Complex Drug Investigations, Financial Investigations, and Intelligence Gathering.
