The Chambersburg Police Department is a dynamic and progressive PLEAC-accredited and credentialed law enforcement agency established on January 16, 1818. It has a sworn staff of 35 officers and 4 civilian staff members, one of whom is a mental health co-responder and community policing liaison. Officers and staff serve a population of approximately 22,000 citizens and patrol an area of 6.92 square miles.

CPD officers are also well-trained. The Chambersburg Police Department is proud of its robust training budget, and officers continue their training upon graduation from the police academy. CPD prides itself on career development with rank advancement opportunities.
Officers can also pursue Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Criminal Justice or an approved degree program at a cost covered by the Borough.
